Terms of Use
The short version
- It is a free tool that saves web pages to your own computer. You decide what to capture, so you are responsible for having the right to capture and use it.
- It is provided as is. Captures can be incomplete, and “verified” describes the integrity of the archive, not its authenticity.
- Do not use it to access systems or data you are not allowed to access.
1. Agreement
By installing or using Page Source Capture (“the extension”) you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, uninstall the extension. The extension is provided by Win Htut Hein, an independent developer (“the developer”, “I”). You may also be subject to the Chrome Web Store’s own terms, which these Terms do not replace.
2. What the extension does
The extension saves a web page you are viewing, together with the resources it uses, as a single .zip file on your computer, and can add a report describing how that page is built. It works entirely on your device. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what it reads, stores and requests.
3. Your responsibilities
You choose what to capture. You agree that you will:
- capture only pages you own, pages you have permission to copy, or pages you are otherwise legally entitled to copy for your purpose, such as research, debugging, accessibility checks, or developing your own software or extensions;
- comply with the law and with the terms of the sites you visit, including copyright, database rights, privacy and data-protection law, and computer-misuse law;
- not use the extension to bypass authentication, paywalls, rate limits or other access controls, to access anyone else’s account or data, to attack or overload a site, or to collect personal data you have no lawful basis to hold;
- treat captures as potentially sensitive. A capture made while signed in may contain your private data or other people’s, and you are responsible for storing, sharing and deleting it appropriately and for reviewing it before you share it.
The developer has no control over, and takes no responsibility for, the pages you capture or what you do with the files.
4. Licence and ownership
The developer grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the extension for any lawful purpose, including commercial work. The extension is licensed, not sold. The extension’s code, name and icon remain the property of the developer, and nothing in these Terms transfers them to you. The full licence is in the LICENSE.txt file shipped with the extension.
Captured files are not the developer’s and are not owned by the extension. The content inside them belongs to its respective owners and remains subject to their rights. Using the extension does not give you any right to that content.
5. Accuracy and limitations of captures
- Captures are copies, not originals. Pages change, load content conditionally and can detect or block automated saving. A capture may be incomplete or differ from what you saw. Video and audio are not saved. Scripts are saved inert and will not run. Resources that fail to download are listed in the capture’s report.
- “Verified” has a narrow meaning. It means the finished archive was re-read before saving, every file matched its checksum, and the archive’s structure is valid. It does not mean the content is authentic, complete, unaltered by the page or an extension, or equal to what a server sent.
- Not evidence-grade. A capture is not a forensic or notarised record. Do not rely on it as legal, regulatory or compliance evidence without your own independent validation.
- Redaction and site reports are best effort. The “site intel” report is generated automatically, may be wrong or out of date, and is not security or legal advice.
- Deep mode uses Chrome’s debugging interface. Chrome shows a banner while it runs. Reloading the tab (an option) discards unsaved input on that tab.
6. Third-party sites and trademarks
The extension fetches content from third-party sites at your direction. The developer is not affiliated with those sites and is not responsible for their content or availability. Google, Chrome and the Chrome Web Store are trademarks of Google LLC. Other names belong to their owners. The extension is independent of them.
7. No warranty
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the extension is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, accuracy, completeness and non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that it will work on every page, browser version or operating system, that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that captures will be complete or free of sensitive data.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill or business, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the extension or from files you capture, even if advised of the possibility. Because the extension is free, the developer’s total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is zero.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law (for example for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence), or any mandatory consumer rights you have in your country.
9. Availability, changes and ending
The extension is provided free of charge. The developer may change, suspend or discontinue it, and may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the version and effective date above, and continued use after they take effect means you accept them. You can stop at any time by uninstalling the extension. Sections 3 to 8 and 10 continue to apply to anything done before then.
10. General
These Terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your own country. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and the developer about the extension.
